The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has denied the request to grant bail to the suspects of the robbery of a lightning conductor and gold commodities.
The suspects, including five Police officers, were accused of allegedly robbing a lightning conductor of historical value as well as gold items worth over Rs. 500,000.
According to the Ada Derana court correspondent, when the case was taken up by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (14), the counsels representing the suspects requested for bail to be granted to the suspects, since investigations had been completed.
Opposing the request, the Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the court that charges had been filed against the relevant suspects under the Firearms Ordinance of Sri Lanka.
The Police declared that accordingly, the Magistrate’s Court did not in fact have the authority to grant bail to the suspects.
After taking into consideration the cases presented by both parties, the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Lal Ranasinghe Bandara denied the suspects’ request for bail.
According to the Ada Derana court correspondent, Justice Lal Ranasinghe Bandara also ruled that the suspects be further remanded till July 28.
