Superintendent of Railway Transport, Vijaya Samarasinghe announced that train journeys along the railway line running from Fort to Talaimannar would be restricted from today (17) onwards, owing to maintenance activities.
Vijaya Samarasinghe explained that plans to replace the old bridge lying between Medawachchiya and Weddikulam had been set in motion today (17) and would continue till Sunday (23).
Accordingly, trains travelling along the railway track from Fort to Talaimannar will not be traveling beyond Medawachchiya during the course of next week, until the bridge replacement activities are concluded.
Vijaya Samarasinghe also added that a special bus service would be introduced under the Ceylon Transport Board (CTB), to facilitate transport between Medawachchiya and Talaimannar.
