The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) announced that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would be informed of the hindrances caused by Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne to the process of solving the SAITM issue.
Media Spokesperson of the GMOA, Dr. Samantha Ananda stated that it was unwise to attempt to quell the GMOA or the students in an instance where flexible measures were being taken to solve the SAITM issue.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne denied the GMOA’s allegation that he was attempting to form a new trade union by recruiting a group of doctors.
Issuing an announcement, the Health Minister stated that even if new trade unions were founded, he had no connection to it whatsoever, and added that trade unions were formed by doctors and not ministers.
His announcement also mentioned the possibility of emergence of new trade unions owing to the prevalent disputes among medical organizations.
