Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka says that the government did not point guns or deploy the army to resolve the waste management issue and that they managed to remove all the piled up garbage in the city of Colombo within three days.
Speaking during an event held in Badulla today (20), he stated that those who opposed methodical waste management are now engaged in demonstrations to protect it.
“We didn’t point guns or deploy the army to cover up the garbage dumps. We resolved this issue by staying with the people.”
The Minister of Megapolis and Western Development also stated that while every issue is being systematically resolved, various sections are accusing the government of killing dogs and cattle, which he said is untrue.
“Dogs were killed back when IIFA was held (in Sri Lanka). We will not go for such processes,” he said.
He urged those who are talking with sympathy towards dogs and cattle to come forward to save the lives of the innocent animals that are eating polythene in the streets.
The minister called on the people to stop acting like pacifists on Facebook or the media and honestly take a stand for these animals by assisting the programmes being carried out by local government institutions.
