Key testimonies and shocking information uncovered through extensive examination with regard to the Central Bank treasury bond scam have managed to kick up a storm of controversy.

When the proceedings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate and inquire into the issuance of Treasury Bonds commenced on Friday (28), one of its members Supreme Court judge Prasanna Jayawardene stated that the commission should look into what kind of investments were made with the large sums of money earned by Perpetual Treasuries Ltd, through bond trades in the primary and secondary market.

He called for a list of investment made and companies purchased since January 2015 as there have been reports of the controversial primary dealer acquiring private television channels, newspapers and largescale liquor brewers.

Meanwhile the commission also ordered Perpetual Treasuries Director Arjun Aloysius to provide investigative officers with the passport to the account on his mobile phone after Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda stated that Mr Aloysius was avoiding from giving officers the password.

Mr Brian Sinnaiah, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Global Transportation and Logistics, the company which purchased the luxury penthouse allegedly linked to minister Ravi Karunanayake, was summoned before the commission today.

Karunanayake had held the post of Managing Director at the company until his resignation on January 8, 2015 while currently the minister’s wife and eldest daughter are holding Executive Director posts in the company.

Sinnaiah stated that an individual by the name of Lakshmikanthan, who resides in England, serves as the Chairman of the company.

He also revealed that he was instructed by directors of Global Logistics to purchase the luxury penthouse in question in July 2016 as an investment of the company.
