The 16 Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) workers against whom arrest warrants were issued have been granted bail following their surrender to the court.
The group of 16 CPC workers was previously arrested on July 26, and subsequently released on police bail.
The arrest was made on the grounds that they had obstructed the distribution of fuel after it was declared an essential service.
The group was also ordered to appear before the courts on July 31.
The Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court accordingly issued warrants for the arrest of 16 CPC workers earlier yesterday (31), following their failure to appear before the Court.
Following this, the group of workers had today (01) surrendered to the Court and proceeded to submit a motion seeking bail.
The Court, upon considering the motion, had accordingly granted personal bail worth Rs. 100,000 each, thus enabling their release.
