The Ministry of Health stated that a three day dengue eradication program will commence tomorrow (3) onwards, island wide.
Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne advised the Dengue Control Unit to commence this program as the risk of dengue breeding sites developing had increased due to the shower spells the country has experienced.
Attention has been given to eradication programs carried out in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Galle, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Matara and Matale.
The Ministry of Health has taken steps to deploy more than 2000 groups of dengue prevention officers and members of the armed forces.
The Unit reported that although 8988 cases were reported within the first week of July, the number decreased to 2484 by the fourth week of July.
During the three day inspection period that commenced on the 27 of July, 5,48,600,000 locations were inspected for dengue, out of which breeding grounds were found at 19,684 areas.
798 areas have had court cases filed against them.
Furthermore, out of the 1,560,500,000 cases of dengue patients that were reported during this year (2017), 327 were reported dead.
