The Police Force has set in motion a programme to install hidden cameras along main roads, to facilitate taking legal action against road rule violators.
Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police in charge of the Motor Traffic Division, Kamal Silva stated that the programme would first be implemented as a pilot programme based in Colombo and the Western Province.
The DIG explained that the city of Colombo was frequently congested with traffic and pedestrians, and that it was therefore a hub for traffic violations.
He also added that officials had been instructed to strictly enforce rules and regulations pertaining to speed limits.
Furthermore, he stated that the Police had been provided with a considerable amount of laser speed-measuring devices, and added that the Road Development Authority (RDA) had installed speed limit signs along main roads.
