The two suspects previously arrested in connection with the attack on the two policemen in Kopai, Jaffna, have been remanded till August 10.

According to the Police spokesperson, the ruling had been made by the Jaffna Magistrate.

Two police officers were admitted to the Jaffna Hospital with critical injuries on July 30, after they were attacked by a group of sword-wielding individuals in the Kondavil area at Kopai, Jaffna.

Police Media Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruwan Gunasekara said that a group of individuals on motorcycles had carried out the attack at around 12.15pm on July 30, as the two officers were on their way to report to duty. 

Two Constables attached to the Kopai Police Station had been the target of the brutal attack, one of them being a Tamil. 

Police headquarters yesterday (01) reported that two suspects had been arrested earlier that morning, following an investigation conducted by the Kopai Police Station.

One of the suspects had been arrested by Jaffna Police, whilst the other had been arrested by Kopai Police.

The arrestees are said to be 30-year-old Thivarasa Madushan, alias Madu, a resident of Nallur, and 23-year-old Wijayaratnam Sivaraj a resident of Manippai.

The suspects were ordered to be placed in remand custody following their appearance before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today (02), the Police spokesperson stated.
