Drought adversely affects fishing industry - Amaraweera

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera reported that the prolonged drought that has plagued the nation has adversely affected the freshwater fishing industry.
The Minister of Fisheries further reported that certain water bodies in several areas had completed evaporated, causing a severe loss of fish within those areas. He further stated that as a result, many fisherman whose primary source of income is dependent on those water reserves are in dire straits.
Minister Amaraweera brought these facts to light at a discussion held with the Ministry of Fisheries and development of Aquatic reserves.
He further stated that measures will be taken to provide relief to the fishermen who are affected by the drought in the coming future.
