Two teenagers arrested over attack on police officers in Kopai

Sri Lanka Police said that two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent attack on two police officers in Kopai, Jaffna. 

 

The arrests were reportedly made by Jaffna Police in the Kokkuvil area. Police said that both suspects are 18 years old. 

 

They have been identified as Yogarasa Sagees, also known as ‘Muththu’, a resident of Nallur Road, and Arul Shilan Patrick Dinesh,a resident of central Kopai. 

 

Two on-duty police officers attached to the Kopai Police Station were critically injured and hospitalized following a brutal attack carried out by a gang of individuals on motorcycles on Sunday (July 30).

 

Following investigations into the incident, police identified six suspects while 2 suspects were arrested on Tuesday (01). They were remanded till August 10 after being produced at the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court. 

 

Meanwhile the two police officers who were being treated at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital have been transferred. 

 

One of the victims was transferred to the Narahenpita Police Hospital for further treatment while the other was transferred to Mannar Hospital based on his request.
