The Supreme Court has made the decision to extend the ban on dumping garbage accumulated from Colombo at the Muthurajawela reserve.
The three-person panel of judges comprised of Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira de Abrew and Anil Gunaratne had reportedly postponed the petition hearing till September 21, according to the Ada Derana court correspondent.
The petition was submitted by a group of 37 residents of Muthurajawela.
The petitioners stated that dumping garbage, especially when Muthurajawela had been declared a protected sanctuary through a gazette, could give rise to severe environmental and health complications.
The petitioners have accordingly requested that the Court issue a ban preventing the dumping of garbage at the aforementioned site.
