Fire completely destroys paddy fields in Madampe

A spontaneous fire that erupted at the Ponnankanniya, Madampe paddy fields has completely destroyed the fields in that area.
Due to the drought like conditions the country has been experiencing recently had caused the paddy fields to completely dry up, while the fire that had erupted is affecting the flow of vehicles on the Kakkapalliya - Madagama road.
The Puttalam Disaster Management Center stated that they do not know the cause behind the fire, and that investigations on the matter are currently being carried out.
The department added that under the Agricultural workers Act, setting fire to a farming fireld is punishable by law, if convicted.
