Minister of Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage S.B.Dissanayake stated that the two main political parties cannot coexist with each other for a prolonged period of time. He also stated that there is no need for them to do so as they should contest separately for any impending elections.
He made these statements after attending an event in Hanguranketha
S.B.Dissanayake further stated that the conduct of the former president Mahinda Rajapakse, with regards to his position within the SLFP was rather unethical. He stated that after handing over authority of the SLFP to the current president, it is wrong for Rajapakse to conspire against him rather than attempting to aid his administrative duties.
He further stated that as President Sirisena is attempting to forge a unified front, the members of his party should assist and enhance the unity within the party, rather than attempt to sabotage its hierarchy.
S.B.Dissanayake also stated that Mahinda Rajapakse will not let any other member of the SLFP gain control, until his son Namal Rajapakse is of a suitable age to take over.
