
Parliament was adjourned for 10 minutes over an issue with regard to the amendments made to the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill.
The adjourned debate on the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill was expected to be held today followed by the vote.
The Bill which was initially submitted by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha on July 20, was discussed at length in parliament yesterday (24).
Following discussions reports confirm that 27 amendments were made to the Bill.
The amendments include proposals to have a mixed system incorporating both the proportionate and electoral systems to carry out Local Government elections. The proposed system is expected to be applied to all impending elections that will follow.
