Speaking to the media at a brief press gathering following the submission of a motion of no-confidence against him yesterday (24), Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne stated that the motion that was submitted against him will only restore the faith people have in him.   

Minister Senaratne stated that the no-confidence motion signed by 39 members of the Joint Opposition was a very poorly compiled document that had very low credibility. 

The Minister cited several clauses that were included in the motion dismissing their sincerity. He stated that the accusations levied against him stating that he was not present at hearings at the Bribery commission were baseless as he was present at the commission thrice to disapprove allegations made against him.   

He also addressed claims made that, during his tenure as Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development he sold to Modara port for a minimal fee to a private organization for personal gain. In response he stated that he along with senior officials of the Fisheries department accepted the highest offer available at the time after a valuation report was completed to prevent Gotabaya Rajapaksa acquiring the Modara port during his term as Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.  
 
Minister Senaratne further stated that he is confident that he will withstand any number of motion brought against him as he is devoid of fraud. He challenged the JO to bring 10 more motions and receive a majority in parliament. 

It was further reported that in light of actions taken by the JO, Minister Senaratne pledged to be at the forefront of operations conducted to convict members of the former regime who have masked several illegal activities. He stated that all the murderers, crooks and frauds that were safeguarded by the previous government will be brought to justice.
