
The National Trade Union (NTUF) has issued a statement that in their view, all government servants should be given provisions to carry out their duties independently.
It was also stated that the general populace of Sri Lanka had lost faith in the government service, due to unsuitable appointments by government officials and unnecessary involvements from government funded trade unions.
The Federation recommended to do away with the current appointment system that is heavily politicized, and instead conduct examinations and take into consideration government and police records of all potential government employees.
It was also stated that in order to reassure the trust of the people, immediate steps need to be taken to completely remove politicized public service appointments. It was further mentioned that trade unions need also be curtailed to maintain the independence of government servants.
