A 39 year old school teacher travelling inside a three-wheeler on the Hatton – Thalawakele main road was tragically killed by a large tree falling on the vehicle she was travelling in earlier today (29).
It has been reported that the incident occurred in close proximity to the Devon region at around 12 noon. Reports confirm that the driver of the three-wheeler sustained heavy injuries and was rushed to the Lindula hospital.
The Police have reported that the diseased person was A. Veronica, a 39 year old teacher at the Thalawakele Tamil Maha Vidyalayam who is a resident of the Kotagala region.
It was also reported that the corpse was transferred to the Lindula hospital for the performance of a postmortem for further investigation.
The Thalawakele police further stated that the unfortunate tragedy occurred due to the incessant rains that plagued the Hatton region causing the soil underneath the uprooted tree to giveaway. Motorists travelling on the Hatton main road have been advised to utilize alternate routes bypassing the region.
