Speaking to the public at a program held to empower women titled ‘diriya kathun’ that was organized by State Minister of International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe, the premier elaborated on the steps taken by the current government to empower women in politics. He stated that an initiative has been taken to increase the female representative number to 25% at the upcoming Provincial Council election.

The Prime Minister then went on to state that the next three years would be the developmental era for the current government. He stated that by the end of the development phase, the government would have created a strong, self sustaining economy capable of driving Sri Lanka into the future. He also stated that President Maithripala Sirisena would launch the planned developmental project on Monday.

The premier further stated that the government has taken steps to bolster tourism in the country. He stated that currently 2000000 tourists frequent Sri Lanka annually. In his view the developmental plans implemented will increase the number to 5000000 within the coming years.

Following these remarks the Prime Minister reminded the gathering of certain individuals who declared that the newly formed government would not function for even a year due to the crushing debt that was overshadowing the economy.
