One person was killed while another 11 sustained injuries following a traffic collision involving a bus and a van in the Pannampitiya area on the Dambulla-Matale main road this morning.
All wounded person were admitted to the Dambulla Hospital following the crash while six of them are said to be in critical condition.
A private bus traveling from Kandy to Anuradhapura had collided with a van traveling from Trincomalee to Kandy at around 11.00am today (3).
The injured persons include the passengers of the van, mostly children, and the driver of the bus.
The deceased has been identified as Jasmine Pahir, 38, of Thakka Nagar in Trincomalee.
Eyewitnesses say that the driver of the bus had veered off his lane in order to avoid hitting a motorcycle which had suddenly entered the road, when the bus crashed into the van.
The driver of the bus has been arrested while Dambulla Police is conducting investigations.
