Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka stated that all politicians should possess the decorum to speak to the public in a responsible, prudent manner.
Speaking to the media following an event in Kiribathgoda, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka commented on the displeasing way several politicians demeaned him for expressing his willingness to produce evidence against former Army Commander Jagath Jayasuriya.
Loyalists of the Minister of Regional Development organized a reception for the Field Marshal in retaliation to the protests assembled against him for taking a stance on the trail against Gen.Jagath Jayasuriya in Kiribathgoda yesterday (4).
Speaking to the assembly at the reception, the Field Marshal stated that as a practice, all Military personnel donning a Sri Lankan uniform were punished regardless of rank or stature when they were convicted of a wrong doing. Therefore he mentioned that all politicians should be mindful when issuing statements on a trial that is conducted on severe wrong doing of a former high ranking Military Officer.
Responding to a question raised by the media stating that certain politician’s labeled the Field Marshal as a turncoat to the nation, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka stated that the very same people throwing allegations against him quivered in fear during the war, afraid to go beyond Anuradhapura. He also stated that he will not concern himself with the remarks of such cowards.
