
An Indian national has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle gold worth over Rs 300,000 by concealing them in his rectal cavity.
The 30-year-old suspect was preparing to board a flight to Madurai at 11am yesterday morning (9) when was arrested and searched by BIA Customs officers.
Two pieces of gold weighing 52.23 grams and valued at Rs. 325,765 were discovered hidden in his rectum.
The gold was forfeited and the suspect was fined Rs 10,000 after the Customs inquiry was conducted.
