
A Sri Lankan national was intercepted at the Bandaranaike International Airport by Airport Customs for attempting to smuggle foreign currency.
The suspect. 54, was bound to China aboard the aircraft bearing the number MU 232 at 6.45 pm yesterday (10), when he was intercepted at the Departure Terminal.
Foreign currency in the form of USD 10,000 and JPY 1,100,000, the total of which equaled to LKR 2,652,000, were found in his possession.
Following a severe warning, the suspect was released by Deputy Director of Customs, T. H. Premachandra, without a penalty.
The foreign currency was taken into Airport Customs custody.
