In a statement released today (14), the Human Rights Watch stated that the Sri Lankan government has failed in its strategy to implement the UN resolution on accountability.
The HRW mentioned that setting numerous reconciliation offices and talking of change does not amount to implementing the resolution agreed upon in 2015.
Meenakshi Ganguly of HRW stated that the Sri Lankan government is required to show results of justice provided to ‘long-suffering’ Sri Lankans.
The Tamil Guardian reports that Ms.Ganguly is of the view that Sri Lanka has largely failed to implement the UN resolution which required the government to set up a hybrid court to try perpetrators of mass atrocities.
She further stated that Pablo de Grieff who is supposed to visit the island nation must ‘call out’ Sri Lanka for its hesitancy towards the implementation of the resolutions.
“Sri Lankan officials need to show that they can do more than just talk the language of human rights and instead put those words into action.” She said.
