Sources confirm that 95% of employees working at several generating stations across the country have joined with CEB Trade Unions in their protest against the government.

Executive member of the Laxapana Generating Station Trade Union W.M.J.A.Fernando stated that a majority of employees from the Laxapana, New Laxapana, Canyon, Polpitiya and Wimalasurendra power plants have joined the strike action that is being carried out. 

Mr.Fernando further stated that several automated power generation units are being operated by a few CEB employees and past officials that were recalled by the government.

It was also stated that should a complication within the main power supply unit occur, the entirety of all automated machinery in all power generation units will stop working resulting in an islandwide power loss. Mr.Fernando further stated that a prolonged shut down of hydroelectric plower plants will result in a dramatic rise in water levels that may require authorities to open flood gates to prevent floods. 
  
CEB Trade Union members further stated that the present dwindling number of electrical engineers and CEB employees who are attempting to keep the power grid afloat will not be able to prevent a nationwide power loss should the main power generation unit malfunction. 

Trade Union members requested the government to comply with the requests made by them in order to prevent such a situation from arising.
