Sri Lankan arrested with foreign currencies worth Rs 1.6 million

A Sri Lankan bound to Singapore while attempting to smuggle foreign currencies worth Rs 1.6. Million was apprehended by BIA Departure Customs yesterday (27).

 

Foreign currencies worth US$10,000 and S$643 were found in suspect’s back pocket when he was arrested.

 

The 35-year old suspect had been identified as a resident of Samanthurei, who is employed as a technician in Singapore. 

 

The case was detected by Assistant Superintendents of Customs.

 

The currencies were forfeited and suspect was released after being fined Rs. 100,000 by Customs Deputy Director Mr.Ranjith De Alwis.
