One dead and 1 critical after MP’s vehicle hits bike

One person has been killed while another was critically injured after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle, in which Joint Opposition MP Wimalaweera Dissanayaka had been traveling. 

 

Police said that the incident had occurred at around 1.00am today (29) near the Karangawa Janaraja Vidyalaya, Ampara on the Ampara – Kandy road. 

 

The motorcycle rider and the pillion rider were both rushed to the Ampara Hospital following the accident, however one of them had succumbed to injuries. 

 

The deceased is a resident of Tissapura in Uhana. The other injured person is currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the hospital. 

 

MP Wimalaweera Dissanayaka was reportedly unharmed following the accident while the driver of the vehicle, an SUV, has been arrested.
