
The Colombo District Court today rejected a petition which had been filed seeking to reinstate former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
The petition was filed by two individuals including the former Chairman of the Boralesgamuwa Urban Council.
The petition states that only a candidate who contested President Elections from the SLFP can hold the position of party Chairman.
SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake and former General Secretary, who are named as respondents in the case, filing preliminary objections stated that the case cannot be heard as the President, also named as a respondents, is immune to from civil lawsuits.
