President of the Private Medical College Parents’ Society (PMCPS) T.M.K.B Tennakoon urged the government and medical practitioners of Sri Lanka to arrive at a consensus and formulate a solution to the ongoing debate on SAITM, to prevent the children of the nation from losing their future. 

Speaking to an Ada Derana correspondent earlier today (4), Mr.Tennakoon stated that as parents, the PMCPS is worried for the academic careers and wellbeing of all children from both SAITM and local medical faculties who are losing out on valuable time that can be expended to further their academic careers. 

He further mentioned that parents, educators and students alike are suffering from the ongoing debacle that has halted medical education within Sri Lanka. 

Mr.Tennakoon also stated that hundreds of parents enrolled their children at SAITM going by the assurance made by the government at the time that SAITM would be an accepted institute that could produce graduates. 

“The previous government ensured parents that SAITM was an approved venture. The problem that is now plaguing the nation was created by the previous regime. It is up to the current government to provide us with a resolution” Mr.Tennakoon said. 

The President of the PMCPS went on to state that at this point in time; all parents just require a resolution no matter what it is.
