Sri Lanka Police today said that another suspect has been arrested in connection with the recent attack on a house sheltering a group of Rohingya refugees.
Prageeth Chanaka Gunathilake, 40, from Maha Wadduwa, was arrested after he surrendered to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
The arrested suspect is a former Police Constable who has been interdicted from the service. Police said that there are three pending cases against him at the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
Two of the cases are with regard to attacking and causing damages to a mosque while the other case is with regard to an incident of threatening the principal of a girls’ school in Panadura.
So far several suspects including a Buddhist monk have been arrested in connection with the attack which had occurred on September 26.
An angry mob of monks and their supporters threw stones and smashed windows and furniture of a UN safe house in Mount Lavinia sheltering 31 Rohingya refugees, including 16 children and seven women.
