The Department of Meteorology says that the low level atmospheric disturbance to the North-East of the island in the Bay of Bengal has developed in to a low pressure area and that it is likely to develop in to a depression and move to the North-West, away from the island.
Due to these conditions, cloudy conditions are expected to continue further and fairly strong winds can be expected over the island during next few days.
Heavy showers, rough seas with strong windy conditions can be expected in the Bay of Bengal during next few days, the weather advisory issued by the department this morning said.
It said that winds will be south-westerly in direction and speed will be 30-40 kmph.
meanwhile the deep and shallow sea area off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai and in the sea area off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, can be very rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60-70 kmph.
The other sea areas can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph.
Temporally very strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, the department said while requesting naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regards.
