The family members of the LTTE detainees in Anuradhapura prison met President Maithreepala Sirisena today (19).

The meeting was provided by The President on the request made by NPC member M. K. Shivajilingam.

The family members of the LTTE detainees requested the President to release their family members.

“If former President Mahinda Rajapaksa can release LTTE prisoners after 12 times of rehabilitation, why cannot the authorities release these 117  LTTE detainees? If they are detained under the offense of war crimes, even the Sri Lankan army is alleged of war crimes. Why aren’t they being punished?” said Shivajilingam.

Shivajilingam was questioned by the journalists as to why the government is following double standards when it comes to protests in North and South.

“We did not get any court order banning the Jaffna protest as in South. That’s why we carried it on” He answered.
