Govt ambition for a federal constitution delayed elections – SLYLA

The Sri Lanka Young Lawyers Association (SLYLA) stated that the reason that the elections were postponed for so long, was the government’s ambition to create a federal constitution before holding elections.
Convener of the SLYLA Manoj Gamage stated that the government postponed the elections due to the complications that may arise in creating a new constitution should they lose the election.
He further stated that the elections commission should be ashamed of the fact that elections have not been held when all necessary legalities have been passed to hold elections.
Manoj gamage also mentioned that the Elections Commissioner should be held responsible for the delay of elections and that legal action should be sought against him.
