Youth who impregnated 14-year old detained in Welihena

A 25-year old youth who had a secret affair with a 14-year old girl and fled after finding out she was pregnant was detained by the Kalpitiya police.
The suspect who is a resident of Kalpitiya was found by Police officials in Welihena.
Investigations revealed that the man had contacted the young girl over a year ago after which a romantic relationship had ensued.
After several months of courting, the 25-year old discovered that his lover was pregnant and fled in fear of rape charges.
Following his arrest, the suspect is to be produced before the Puttalam District court for charges of child abuse.
