The gazette notification increasing the official term of the Presidential Commission of inquiry appointed to investigate the issuance of Treasury Bonds has been published.
President Maithripala Sirisena appointed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and report on the Central Bank bond issue on January 27, 2017.
The Commission is headed by Supreme Court Judge, Justice K.T. Chithrasiri and comprised of two other members, namely, Supreme Court Judge P.S. Jayawardena and Rtd. Deputy Auditor General K. Velupillai.
Upon a request made by officials of the Bond Commission, the President extended the time period of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry in accordance with the Commission of Inquiry Act considering the current role of the Commission in resolving the ongoing Bond scandal.
Having already extended the time period by three months following the issuance of Extraordinary gazette notification No. 2029/15 The Presidential Commission will therefore function till December 8, 2017 in accordance with the special gazette notification that was published yesterday (24), by the Presidential Secretariat.
Accordingly the official term of the Presidential Commission has been extended by six weeks.
