Qatar’s foreign minister thanks Sri Lanka for support

A bilateral meeting was held between Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, who is on a two day state visit to State of Qatar, and Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, today (25).

 

During this meeting it was discussed in detail regarding the strengthening of the economic, trade and tourism ties between the two countries. The President also apprised the Qatari investors and entrepreneurs about the new business and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.

 

Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs says that he was confident that the visit by President Maithripala Sirisena will contribute to further strengthening the close relations between Qatar and Sri Lanka as well as to build new relations which will benefit both the countries.

 

The Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the President for being with the State of Qatar when the country is facing difficult situations, the President’s Media Division said.

 

President Sirisena expressing his views said that Sri Lanka which will maintain a middle path foreign policy works with all the countries in the world with a friendly and cooperative manner.

 

Many Sri Lankans are currently working in various fields in Qatar and the special attention of the Qatari Foreign Minister was paid to the request made by the President to increase the opportunities given to the Sri Lankan professionals in Qatar.

 

Meanwhile, the President also participated in the Qatari-Sri Lankan Business Meeting held in Doha today.

 

This Business Meeting was organized by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar and over 150 entrepreneurs representing both countries participated in this forum.

 

Representatives from Board of Investment (BoI) of Sri Lanka, Tourism Board and the Export Development Board expressed in detail regarding the prevailing new investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.  

 

Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Vasantha Senanayake also addressed this forum.

 

A delegation including the Qatar Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani participated in this Meeting.
