
A Sri Lankan passenger has been detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to enter the country with a stock of cigarettes worth over Rs 1.1 million.
The passenger, aged 33 and said to be businessman, had arrived from Dubai by flight FZ551 at 5.30am on Thursday (26).
He was apprehended by BIA Customs with 22,580 sticks of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 1,129,000.
The passenger was released with a severe warning and without a penalty after he forfeited the goods.
