Welikada Prison riot:Compensation paid for 15 detainees

A compensation of Rs.20 million was paid to the family members of detainees who were dead and injured at the Welikada Prison riot yesterday (27).
The Financial Ministry took steps to award Rs.2 million to a detainee who died, and Rs.500, 000 to an injured person.
Accordingly, Rs. 20 million was paid to family members of ten detainees who died at the Welikada incident. Meanwhile Rs.500 000 was given to family members of five detainees.
The government had planned to pay a compensation of Rs.22.2 million to the detainees who were victimized during the Welikada Prison incident.
