The first round of debates of the Constitutional Assembly of Sri Lanka commence today (30.) in the chamber of Parliament, a short while ago.
 
The main focus of the debates will be the Interim Report of the Steering Committee, which was tabled on September 21 and will take place on three consecutive days.
 
The Interim Report of the Steering Committee and other information on the constitutional reforms process can be accessed/ downloaded at Constitutional Assembly of Sri Lanka.

The Interim Report of the Steering Committee was presented to the Constitutional Assembly on 21st September 2017. 

This Report will be followed by a Final Report incorporating amendments emanating from the debate before the Constitutional Assembly. The Final Report will be accompanied by the Draft Constitutional Proposal. 

The recommendations of the six Sub-Committee Reports are to be considered by the Steering Committee in formulating constitutional principles on the respective subject areas. 

The Constitutional reform process is open to representations of the public and all representations received by the Constitutional Assembly Secretariat are tabled in the Steering Committee. 

However as the Interim Report of the Steering Committee on core subject areas was tabled on 21st September, any represenatations that are received by the Secretariat during this period could only be tabled when the Steering Committee commences the next round of deliberations/ meetings.
