Chinese companies to begin maintenance of Hambantota port in December – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe confirmed that Chinese companies will begin maintenance activities of the Hambatota port from December 2017.
He further stated that the funds received through the Chinese corporations will be systematically utilized to rid the country of its debt burden.
The premier also stated that lands will be leased out to Chinese corporations to facilitate the industrialization of the Hambantota port area along with the development of the Port.
The Prime Minister expressed these sentiments will addressing a gathering in Hambantota. Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister Sagala Ratnayake and Minister Wijitha Wijayamuni Zoysa were also present at the event.
