Five dead and three missing at Thegamu oya

Police sources confirm that eight persons who were bathing at Thelgamu Oya in Matale have been confirmed dead following strong currents that ensued as a result of the prolonged rain in the region.   

 

Officials have stated that investigations are being carried out into the incident and that the exact number of missing persons is yet to be confirmed.   

 

UPDATE: 5.35pm

 

Local authorities recovered the bodies of three males a female and a child from the group of persons that were reported missing earlier today.  

 

Officials are still attempting to locate the remaining bodies of the missing persons.
