A fire had broken out at a shop located at the Sathosa Junction in Hingurakgoda, Polonnaruwa causing extensive damage to the store and destroying most of the goods in it.
Ada Derana said that the fire had broken out at around 2.00am this morning at a shop selling various inflammable items such as paints and other building material.
The fire had raged on for over 2 hours before it was quelled with the assistance of personnel from the Hingurakgoda air force camp and residents in the area.
Ada Derana reporter added that there were no casualties or injuries to any individuals as a result of the fire, which had caused extensive damage to the shop and destroyed almost all the products stored inside.
Residents of the area claim that the shops have been erected in an unsafe manner in the populated area and also demand that a fire brigade be established for the Hingurakgoda town.
