Political sources confirm that former Defence Secretary Gatabhaya Rajapaksa may be arrested within the next few weeks over fraudulent acts committed during the term of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The arrest may be made based on the accusation that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa swindled Rs.90 million from the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLRDC) to construct the D.A.Rajapaksa museum.
The FCID recorded statements from the former Defence Secretary and several other persons over the loss of Rs.90 million from the SLRDC on several occasions.
Speaking on the issue Gotabhaya Rajapaksa stated that the current government views resourceful and cost-effective construction as the abuse of public funds.
Reports state that the Attorney General has granted approval to law enforcement personnel to make the arrest.
