Heroin worth over Rs 20 million seized in Chilaw

A drug trafficker was arrested with heroin worth around Rs 20 million in Karukapana coastal belt in Chilaw, said the Excise Department.
The suspect was arrested with a stock of 2 kilograms of heroin by the Colombo Narcotics Unit of Excise Department last night (21).
The raid was the result of investigations carried out using undercover officers over a long period of time, said Excise Superintend S.K. Wanigathunge.
The stock of heroin is believed to have been smuggled to the country from India.
The 39-year old suspect has been identified as a resident of Kolaniyawella, Chilaw and will be produced before the Chilaw Magistrate today (22).
Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Excise Department.
