
The Court of Appeal will issue an order today (29) on whether or not to arrest former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa over the misappropriation of government funds during the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Museum and Memorial in Medamulana.
Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an interim order preventing the police from arresting him.
The order was fixed for hearing today (29) by (President) Justice L.T.B. Dehideniya and Justice Shiran Gunaratne.
President’s Councel Romesh de Silva appearing on behalf of Petitioner’s party stated that FCID is attempting to arrest Gotabaya Rajapaksa over chargers of misusing state funds.
A certificate under Offences against the Public Property Act had already been filed before the Magistrate’s Court,the PC stated.
The PC pointed out that the alleged discrepancy during the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Museum and Memorial to be an absolute civil transaction.
The certificate had been filed with the purpose of arresting and remanding the Former Defense Secretary, PC Romesh de Silva stated.
