
A stock of 1178 cartons of foreign cigarettes was apprehended by the Airport Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) early this morning (29).
The passenger who perpetrated the attempted smuggling was identified as a Sri Lankan male arriving from Dubai by flight number FZ 555.
The value of the seized stock of cigarettes amounted to Rs. 1,258,000.
The 26-year-old suspect was identified as a resident of Bampbalapitiya.
The Cigarettes reportedly hidden inside a television box and a table fan box were detected by an Assistant Superintendent of Customs.
Further investigations are being conducted by BIA Customs.
