78-year old convicted for attempted sexual assault on a six-year old

A 78-year old male was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to sexually abuse a six year old girl in Mullaitivu by the Jaffna High Court earlier today (29).
The verdict was delivered by Jaffna HC Judge Balendran Sasi Mahendran during court proceedings today.
The suspect was also ordered to pay the family of the child a sum of Rs.50000 failing which his sentence was to be increased by a further 18 months.
A complaint was lodged with the Mullaitivu police on November 28 2013 by the mother of a child against a suspect who had attempted to sexually abuse her child.
The suspect was detained by the police following an investigation into the incident and charged for attempted sexual assault.
