
A suspect was arrested by Tangalle Anti-Narcotics Unit at Sooriyawewa yesterday (21), with the largest haul of intoxicating pills uncovered from Hambantota District so far.
The 32-year-old suspect had in his possession 80 pills at the time of his arrest.
The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the police and after an undercover operation carried out to purchase drugs from the dealer for a number of days, the police said.
The drugs manufactured in United States have reportedly been illegally smuggled to Sri Lanka through sea route, and have been sold mainly targeting school children, investigations revealed.
One tablet has been sold at a price of Rs.400 each and a quantity of 100 drugs has been sold per day, further investigations revealed.
The 32-year-old suspect residing in Sooriyawewa was handed over to Sooriyawewa police to be produced before courts.
