Elawalage Sarath Kumara alias ‘Cheeti’, who is suspected to be a close associate of the underworld figure known as ‘Angoda Lokka’ has been arrested by the STF at his residence in Kotikawatta this morning, the Police Spokesman said.
SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that a hand grenade was also found at the house during the arrest.
The suspect, who is a member of a criminal gang, was previously arrested on multiple occasions for the possession of firearms.
He is currently being detained by the Police Special Task Force (STF) while investigations are being carried out, after which he will be hand over to the Organised Crime Division.
Sarath Kumara is believed to be a close associate of notorious underworld leader Lasantha Chandana Perera a.k.a Angoda Lokka.
