Former military intelligence chief further remanded

Former Director of Military Intelligence and Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General (Retired) Amal Karunasekara, has been further remanded until May 16 by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
He was arrested by the CID on April 06 this year, in connection with the abduction and assault of journalist Keith Noyahr in 2008 May 22 at Dehiwala.
When the case was taken up before Additional Magistrate Lachani Abeywickrama today (2), the defence attorneys representing the defendant requested the court to grant bail to their client.
However, the state counsel raised objections citing the fact that the defendant could influence the witnesses in the case.
